The WindForS research scientists are working with industry and other research institutions at the wind energy test site in a joint quest for improvements to wind turbine technology. They are seeking a number of enhancements, such as quieter, lighter and more powerful rotors or optimised simulators and computer models. The research and development subjects include the use of new materials, manufacturing techniques, measurement technology, monitoring and the integration of additional storage systems to form a hybrid power plant. Another aim of the research is the development and subsequent testing of new operation and control modes which will allow wind turbines to react intelligently and more precisely than before to changes in wind conditions.
