As part of the collaborative research project WINSENT, the wind energy test site of the WindForS research cluster is being constructed and put into operation in complex terrain. The two modifiable research wind turbines (RWT) can be accessed in terms of construction, design and turbine control, taking into account the prevailing wind parameters and other environmental factors. Depending on the application and field of research, findings from these technologies can be scaled and transferred to commercial, modern large-scale turbines using validated computer models. The test site thus offers a real and virtual environment for researching the dynamic behaviour of wind turbines in complex terrain, as well as the opportunity to test new technologies and control strategies.
The WINSENTvalid follow-up project outlined here pursues four overarching objectives:
