Acoustic and radar sensor technology for the detection of bats and birds at wind turbines

As part of the SENSE2SAVE joint project, a sensor system is being developed to prevent collisions between birds and bats at wind turbines. The project pursues an approach in which a radar system is combined with acoustic detection. Using printed components that can be applied integrated into the film, the detection ranges of bats or birds are to be significantly improved compared to the status quo of this technology. In addition, the approach offers a cost advantage compared to conventional sensor technology, which should enable widespread use in large numbers in the future. The sensor system developed in the consortium is being tested in several development stages at the WINSENT wind energy test site and at another location.
