// H2 Rivers: Hydrogen production and filling station in Waiblingen

In southwest Germany, the "H2 Rivers" consortium with 18 partners from the Rhine-Neckar region and the Middle Neckar area is to develop a hydrogen-based transport infrastructure with hydrogen production, filling stations and fuel cell-based vehicles. The main goal of the consortium is to create a "hydrogen ecosystem" in the fields of transport and industry. The Federal Ministry of Transport is supporting the new concept with investment grants for implementation as part of the initiative "HyLand - Hydrogen Regions in Germany", category "HyPerformer". The city of Waiblingen is one of the project partners in the central Neckar region and will participate in the project with a hydrogen production plant and an attached filling station for the refuelling of buses and cars on the so-called Hess site, a newly developed industrial area on the outskirts of the city and a new public hydrogen bus line to this area.
In connection with this project, ZSW has been commissioned with a first conceptual design of the hydrogen production and filling station in the form of a so-called energy centre. A technical plant concept, an installation concept and a safety concept for the application for approval according to BImSchG shall be developed. The special conceptual features of this order are the special triangular layout of the site, adaptation to the sloping terrain and the proximity to the industrial plants on the new site.
