The Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) is receiving funding of around 7.6 million euros from the state of Baden-Württemberg for the expansion of its testing infrastructure in the field of electrolysis. The “ElyLab: Development of test and innovation infrastructures in the field of electrolysis” project will create the largest testing infrastructure for electrolysis technologies in southern Germany at the ZSW site in Stuttgart.
The aim of the project is to provide companies with targeted support in the development and market launch of innovative electrolysis products. By expanding the test capacities, new technologies can be validated faster, more reliably and under realistic conditions in future - a decisive step on the way to a climate-neutral hydrogen economy.
“With the ElyLab, we are creating the conditions to significantly shorten development times and strengthen the competitiveness of the industry,” explains Dr. Marc-Simon Löffler, Head of the “Renewable Energy Sources” department at ZSW. “Especially in economically challenging times, it is important to invest specifically in future technologies and create spaces for innovation.”
As part of the project, the ZSW's existing electrolysis test field will be comprehensively expanded between 01.01.2025 and 31.12.2027: In addition to the acquisition of new test bench technology, part of the existing building will be extended and a mezzanine floor will be added. This will almost double the test capacities - an important step towards meeting the growing demand from industry and research.
