How fuel cells handle highly dynamic test conditions, for example in automotive applications, plays a decisive role in the ageing process. Conventional fuel cell test rigs are relatively slow in terms of gas and are not suitable to reproduce such conditions.
For this reason, ZSW has developed a highly dynamic test rig (time resolution 1 ms) that can be used to investigate the performance of fuel cells during very fast parameter changes. Furthermore, a circuit board is integrated in the test rig to enable the spatially resolved measurement of electrical and thermal processes in a cell. For example, the effects of short-term local undersupply can be investigated with a time resolution of < 10 ms.
