The topping-out ceremony for the new four-storey building with around 1,500 square metres of floor space was also an opportunity to thank all those involved in the realisation of this project. From the architectural and construction team to everyone involved at the ZSW and the sponsors, everyone has made a valuable contribution to making the Cathode Technical Centre a reality.
The new technical centre at the ZSW in Ulm, called Powder-Up!, will be the first of its kind in Germany to produce battery materials outside the industry in quantities of 10 to 100 kilograms. The facilities cover the entire production chain and also allow research into individual production steps. The materials produced, especially cathode materials, can then be used in pilot plants by research institutes or battery manufacturers. A major theme will be the production of advanced classes of materials for sustainable batteries. It is also planned to test new production machines under real conditions, which will be of particular benefit to the German engineering industry.
The Federal Ministry of Economics, Labour and Housing is funding the "PowderUp!" cathode technology centre to the tune of €10 million. The state funding will be used to create the building and infrastructure requirements.
