The Baden-Württemberg Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Energy Sector is providing over 9 million euros for solar research. Of this, €600,000 will go to the ZSW in Stuttgart. The International Solar Energy Research Center Konstanz (ISC) is also receiving a grant of 8.7 million euros to renew its solar module research line.
The Ministry intends to use the funding to specifically stimulate the development of next-generation cells in Baden-Württemberg. “Production follows research and development. A new solar industry in Germany can only emerge on the basis of a new generation of solar cells,” said Environment Minister Thekla Walker.
The funding measure of over 600,000 euros will be used for the research production line for perovskite thin-film solar modules at ZSW. The perovskite pilot plant has already been advanced in recent years with grants totaling 6.6 million euros. The new funding will enable ZSW to manufacture both flexible and rigid thin-film solar modules based on perovskites under laboratory conditions and, in the medium term, under production conditions. The aim of this project is to identify and test production-relevant processes for the manufacture of perovskite solar modules on an industrial scale.
