// Call from Stockholm - Nobel Prize in Chemistry announced for Stanley Whittingham at ABAA-12

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has announced this year's Nobel Laureates in Chemistry. John B. Goodenough, M. Stanley Whittingham and Akira Yoshino are honoured for the development of lithium-ion batteries. M. Stanley Whittingham was at the ABAA 12 (Advanced Lithium Batteries for Automobile Applications) conference in Ulm when the news of the award went around the world.

Around 380 participants from 30 nations - world-renowned scientists, high-ranking political decision-makers from Germany, Europe, Japan and the USA as well as representatives of the automotive industry, material and cell manufacturers - discussed current developments in lithium-ion batteries at the ABAA 12.

ABAA is an international conference with changing venues across all continents. ABAA-12 was chaired by Dr. Margret Wohlfahrt-Mehrens (ZSW), Prof. Stefano Passerini (HIU) and Dr. Khalil Amine (IALB/ Argonne National Laboratory, USA).
