// Development of manufacturing technologies

ZSW has extensive expertise in the manufacturing of fuel cells across a power range from 50 W to 100 kW. This experience is reflected in the production of more than 1,000 fuel cell stacks (as of July 2025).

Our core competencies include the development and implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies, with a particular focus on joining technologies, cell manufacturing processes, robot-assisted stack assembly and stack testing, as well as the design, manufacturing, and supply of prototype stacks.

The introduction of automated assembly processes for seven-layer membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) and fuel cell stacks has elevated these manufacturing capabilities to a new level of efficiency, precision, and scalability - read more about HyFaB.

Services:

  • Stack technologies (for vehicle drives, light traction, emergency power supply, stationary power supply)
  • Stack development for NT and HT-PEMFC and fuel cells with liquid fuels (methanol and ethanol)
  • Fuel cell production methods (sealing and adhesion technology, robot-assisted stack assembly, test engineering)
  • Stack platforms with active surface areas of between 100 and 560 cm2
  • Generic, freely available stack platform with metallic bipolar plates and a 280 cm² active area.
